Another year past and another welcome addition to the ongoing
release of this ever popular series. This book is once again
illustrated superbly with very clear colour pictures on good quality
paper. It is made well and looks like it will stand up to the wear and
tear of regular reference well.
What many collectors really like about this book is that each coin
pictured is actually pictured to scale. So if you have coin that you
are unsure about, you can place it over a picture to find out its type.
Coins Of England 2014 by Spink
This book catalogues all types of coins
minted in England and includes pictures
and prices for each type of coins. It also
lists many different varieties, including
major ones and valuable ones to look out
for.
The coins are listed by date and date right
back to Celtic coins minted in Britain. It
then goes right through Roman
coins, hammered coins and milled coins up
to modern coins and includes mint and
proof sets and their 2014 estimated values
in different conditions.
There are also sections on grading coins with pictures which will help some collectors to establish the
rough grade of their coins which will enable them to figure out their coin's rough value.
Although a guide price is exactly that a guide and should not be taken as gospel, Spink do a good
job of trying to keep the guide prices in these book up to date each year.
This book also includes an explanation of numismatic terms and translation of legends found on
coins, information about numismatic clubs and trade association and a numismatic Bibliography for
further reading.
Conclusion:
This book remains an essential guide for the numismatist, and one of the best coin reference books
on the market.
