CHARLES II FARTHING 1672-1685 |
There was only one obverse and two different reverse designs issued for Charles II farthings. Several different patterns were struck prior the 1672 release into circulation. The mint stopped production in 1672, however in 1684 and 1685 a tin version with a copper plug was produced. This was done to lower production costs and in an attempt to thwart counterfeiters. Because tin is a reactive metal, it is hard to find these coins in nice condition and 1685 Charles II farthings are rare. The design was by John Roettier. |
