Die Cap Error

A capped die or die cap error is a coin that is struck and sticks to the die. After
numerous strikes the metal flows up around the die and the coin takes the shape
of the die which is normally round. This coin would then most likely have to be
physically removed which means that it was probably kept as a curiosity by the
mint employee.
