George I Guinea 1714 (Obverse 1, Reverse 1) |
There are five different obverses and two different reverses issued for the guinea of the George I reign. It was issued in every year from 1714 to 1727. The 1714 guinea is the only coin to be issued for George's reign during this date. Subsequently there were many coins issued bearing the 1714 date for Queen Anne. The obverses were by John Croker and the reverses were by Johan Ochs senior or Croker. In 1721, 22 & 26 guineas were minted with an Elephant and castle below bust which meant the gold used came from the Africa Company. The very last gold coin to have an Elephant and castle was the 1726 guinea. 1714-1727 Gold 8.4 grams, 25mm Diameter. |
