During George IV's reign the two guinea coin was replaced by the two pounds. There was only one regular two pounds issued in 1823. There were however proof two pounds coins issued in 1823, 1825 & 1826. The two pounds is sometimes referred to as two sovereigns. George IV two pounds has two different obverses and two different reverses. The first obverse was by Jean Baptiste Merlen and the reverse was by Benedetto Pistrucci. The second obverse was designed by William Wyon and the reverse was by Jean Baptiste Merlen. |
