George V was born on the 3rd of June, 1865 and was the second eldest son of King
Edward VII.
In January 1892 his older brother, Prince Edward, died of pneumonia. Edward had
been engaged to marry his German cousin, Princes Mary of Teck, however, after
Edward's death it was decided that Princes Mary should marry George instead.
George V succeeded the throne upon Edward VII's death on the 6th of May, 1910.
George V was in reign during the First World War and due to the anti-German
feelings in Britain decided to change royal family from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to
Windsor.
George V was often ill during his later years and later died of influenza on 20th
January, 1936.
