The British sovereign is one of the worlds most popular and
recognised gold coin.

The obverse of the half sovereign is by Bertram Mackennal.

The George and dragon reverse is a modified version of Benedetto
Pistrucci's design.

The sovereign was also issued for use in Australia (Melbourne, Perth
and Sydney), and has a small M, P, or S mintmark and South Africa
(Pretoria) which has a small SA mintmark.

The mintmarks on the ground above the date on the George and
dragon reverses.

Proofs exist for 1911, 1911(M), 1914(S), 1923(SA) and 1926(S).

           1911-1932 Gold,  8 grams, 22mm Diameter.
