Victoria Crown "Young Head" 1839-1847 |
The "Young head" was designed and engraved by William Wyon, J.B. Merlen was the designer and engraver of the reverse. The "Jubilee head" designed by Joseph Edgar Boehm but it was engraved by L.C. Wyon. L.C. Wyon also designed and engraved the reverse. The George and dragon reverse is a modified version of Benedetto Pistrucci's design. The "Old head" was and the reverse were designed by Sir Thomas Brock,but engraved by George William de Saulles. The George and dragon reverse is a modified version of Benedetto Pistrucci's design. "Gothic" Crowns were produced for two years of Queen Victoria's reign, these being 1847 and 1853 (only as a proof edition). "Gothic" Crowns were designed by William Wyon, Where as the reverses were designed by William Dyce. They are dated using Roman numerals. These Crowns were not issued for circulation and are therefor found in mostly extra fine to uncirculated condition. They are also highly sought after by many collectors and usually sell for quite a high price. 1839-1901 Silver, 28.3 grams, 38mm Diameter. |
