TWO POUNDS 1887-1893 |
The Victoria sovereign arguably the best known and most popular coins in the world. The Victorian Two Pounds (Two Sovereign or Double Sovereign) coin was first introduced in 1887 to celebrate the Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. It was struck for circulation, as well as a proof version which was included in the 11 coin proof sets. The "Jubilee head" designed by Joseph Edgar Boehm The Victorian Two Pounds wasn't struck again until 1893 and this was the last time it was issued during Queen Victoria's reign. The 1893 Two Pounds coin features the "Old head" reverse of Queen Victoria. The "Old head" was and the reverse were designed by Sir Thomas Brock. The George and dragon reverse is a modified version of Benedetto Pistrucci's design. 1838-1901 Gold, 16 grams, 28.5 mm Diameter. |
