There is only one obverse and one reverse design issued for the two guineas of William & Mary. The reverse of the William & Mary two guineas like the other gold coins of this series was a totally a new design unlike any before or after until George II. Instead of the more traditional four shield design separated by four sceptres it has all the shields in one ornamental shield or garter with a single crown above. The William & Mary two guineas was only minted for three years 1691, 1693 & 1694 and every year can be found with the elephant and castle mark. The Elephant and castle below bust donates that the gold used came from the Africa Company. No guineas were minted at local provincial mints. |
