| Greorge VI silver three pennies were not intended for circulation, but were issued as a part of "maundy" money in a four coin proof set, which was issued in 1937 to celebrate his coronation. Maundy money was used traditionally by the Monarch to distribute to the poor people in a parish. The maundy sets consisted of a silver four pence, a silver threepence, a silver twopence and a silver penny. Traditionally the number of poor people given these sets during a maundy ceremony was equal to the same years as the sovereign's life .
